Weight and Eating Habits

Weight is my passion! I understand the misery of being over weight, and also understand that diets are not the answer. But what is? Can anything work when you have been overweight for a long time?

When people come to see me for weight issues I am usually their last resort. They have tried all the diets, slimming groups, various answers from famous people, but nothing has worked. So when they come to see me they are very keen that this will work, because they feel that if this doesn't – nothing will.

Weight is rarely just weight, there are often underlying reasons for it. That can be issues with self esteem, or lack of belief that they really can be slim. Whatever it is, I get to the real cause of the problem so that the weight really does come off without dieting. I can't understand why doctors send people to dieticians when they express a desire or need to lose weight. I have never met an overweight person that couldn't take the class! Why can't they do it – that's where I start.

I absolutely believe that diets are a big reason why the western world has a big problem with obesity. They focus your mind on food, they slow your metabolism down, they make you obsess with what and when you can eat next, and indeed they make you feel bad about yourself because you are unable to stick to them, or because you haven't lost any weight. When you feel bad about yourself you eat! We know we shouldn't but we can't stop ourselves – until now…….

Yo-yo dieting is a common phenomena, it is caused because the real reason that the weight went on in the first place hasn't been addressed. A part of the mind objects to the person being slim, and makes sure that all the weight plus some more goes back on very quickly. I am a true believer in 'Diets make you fat', and this is because of a number of factors.

  • When you diet, the mind is automatically fixed on the foods you CAN'T eat, so that is all you want more than you did prior to dieting, and the diet goes by the wayside.
  • If you've dieted successfully, the body thinks there may be another famine at any moment, so slows the metabolism down to conserve the fat for when it happens again. So you can now eat less, but still put weight on.

Increased weight or excessive use of alcohol is often related to an event or trauma in the past life of the individual. The sub conscious always works for what it perceives is our benefit, but once it is programmed to put weight on (often for protection) or drink more alcohol (often to relieve anxiety or stress, or to make us feel more confident), it is difficult or impossible to change the behaviour without re-programming the sub conscious.

Through advanced hypnotherapy the real reason for the behaviour is found and negotiated with in order to achieve the change. Therefore the change is permanent because the real cause of the problem has been addressed. Diets don't work, but a complete change in mental attitude does - permanently.
